6 Tips to Write a Good Business Blog

Write a Good Business Blog

Your stunning website is online, can be found by your target group … and then? Lean backward? Certainly not! Keep your website interesting for your visitors, increase traffic and ensure that the target group continues to find your website via the search terms they are looking for.

Why business blogging?

Blogging is a way to structurally add new content to your website. The ideal way to get traffic to your website, and to keep it. A nice extra is that you also score higher on Google!

In addition to showing your visitors that your website is up to date, you also do that to Google. Google likes a website that is regularly supplied with new, valuable and unique content.

Blogs are now everywhere on the web. All types and sizes, from large to smaller blogs, from private diaries to business blogs. Business blogging on your website is anything but a business text.

The readers of your blog do not read the brochure of your organization. They read for fun and to learn from your knowledge and experience about interesting topics.

The reasons for blogging vary widely. From sharing your passion, building a bond with your target audience to being found in Google, to creating trust.

Finally, simply because it is possible and fun. Business blogging can bring many benefits. It all sounds nice, but many people find it difficult to blog for business. This can cause a waste of a lot of valuable time and energy.

1. Write to your target group

Focus on your ideal reader. Never write about what is important to you or your organization. Focus on the content of your blog and solve the reader’s problems.

What content is your reader looking for and what problem needs to be solved? Before you start business blogging, make a profile of your target group.

2. Blog the right content

Make sure your blogs are of value. There is a lot of (and more and more) content on the web. But not enough good content. If you share knowledge on your website, people will appreciate it and see you as an expert on certain topics.

For this, you, of course, have to blog good content. Provide content that benefits your visitors, and you’ll stand out! Do you have a current, interesting story?

3. Interaction

Discuss questions and reactions from your target group. Ask your visitors for comments and feedback. For example, ask for topics about new blog topics.

This way you keep your blog interesting and you get an (even) better insight into the interests of your visitors. Add calls-to-actions. Allow visitors to respond and leave their contact details.

Write a business blog? Check the checklist!

In this blog, I leave out the technical side of business blogging. You can write a separate blog (series) about that. Here are 8 points that you must determine before you put the first letter on paper. With this checklist, you lay a solid foundation for your business blog!

✓ Mission and vision

What are the overall objectives of your company? What is your company’s vision? If you want to write a business blog that reaches your target audience, put your mission and vision on paper. That way you can determine your tone, style and blog topics in a targeted way.

✓ Target group

For whom do you write blogs? Describe your ideal reader as detailed as possible to completely tailor your texts to him. If you want to proceed thoroughly, you can also prepare a buyer persona – a personification of your ideal target group.

✓ Purpose

Do you want to inform your readers? Encourage website visitors to take action? Profiling yourself as an authority in your field? Consider carefully what you want to achieve with your blogs. Writing a business blog without a purpose rarely produces the desired results.

✓ The tone of voice and style

Do you speak to readers in you or your form? Do you write from ‘me’ or ‘we’? Is your motto ‘short and to the point’ or ‘long and lyrical’? Determine this type of business before you start business blogging so that you use the same tone and style in every text.

✓ Perspective

Are your texts personal or do you prefer to write? Which themes and topics do you want to highlight? And what is your point of view? If you determine a clear angle in advance, you can write business blogs that fit together perfectly and that ultimately tell one story: your story.

✓ Feeling

How should readers feel after reading your blogs? If you want to write an effective business blog, then it is crucial to realize that content is inextricably linked to emotions. Therefore, think carefully about the feeling that your texts should evoke.

 ✓ Length

How many words should a blog count on average? Choose a feasible number of words. Do you want to write a business blog with a lot of SEO impact, but don’t have a lot of time?

Then you can, for example, publish a blog of around 350 words every week and write a long blog of 1,500 words every last week of the month. What matters is that you apply regularity. Consistency is a keyword when it comes to business blogging.

✓ Frequency

Do you want to publish your business blogs monthly, (two) weekly or daily? Prepare a blog calendar in advance. With this, you determine blog guidelines and monitor the publication frequency. Moreover, you increase the chance that your blogging will last!
